Complete and Utter Irresponsibility Shown by UN-HCHR Head Navanethem (Navi) Pillay

Both sides in Sri Lanka's conflict may have committed war crimes and must suspend fighting to let up to 180,000 civilians escape, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said on Friday.” The UN high commissioner for human rights is a serious job, governments and investors take seriously of actions by this position, and the reactions to statements or actions by this position can have serious repercussions on countries and communities, therefore it is of the bearers responsibility to issue responsible statements. By issuing a false statement on Sri Lankan government UN-HCHR head Navi Pillay has shown that she is completely and utterly irresponsible and henceforth not competent for the job.

It took four years of hearing, several more years of investigation, hundreds of witnesses and physical evidence to bring charges against former Yugoslavian president for crimes against humanity in the Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo war, and a similar time and investigation to charge Sudanese president against crimes in Darfur. It even took several years to bring charges against Sadam Hussein, under the US occupying regime. Few weeks ago the Sri Lankan Human rights minister showed on a foreign TV interview all the allegations against Sri Lankan armed forces in the war zone are false and manufactured by LTTE, he even pointed to the presence of documented evidence of falsification of such allegations.

Serious charges require the presence of evidence and serious investigation. What are the evidence UN-HCHR head has to support her charges against Sri Lankan government? Can she assure the authenticity of this evidence if any? Has she investigated for the authenticity of the any such evidence? When and how?

As shown by the examples above such serious charges require evidence , lengthy time consuming investigations. Mrs Pillay has provided no such evidence on her statement nor pointed to the presence of any investigation. The erratic flimsy nature of her statement clearly shows that she is utterly irresponsible and erratic and unfitting for the responsibilities of the position, every Sri Lankan and responsible citizens of the world should be demanding she apologize for her erratic behavior and immediately resign from her position.

  2. Navi Pillay is a Tamil and perhaps she wanted to return favors to her origin and decided to support LTTE.

It is time for someone who is more capable than Navi Pillay to take up this esteemed post.

Time to go Navi. You have been impeached for your ignorance!
